BREAKING: Jubilee Controlled IEBC DECLARES Raila’s OKOA Kenya Referendum a FAILURE

Date:

IEBC has announced that the Opposition’s Okoa Kenya referendum initiative has collapsed.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission led by chairman Isaac Hassan met on Tuesday to discuss and adopt a report from the technical team over the matter.

“The analysis of the data presented by the OKOA Kenya popular initiative has shown that that the number of valid registered voters supporting the initiative is 891,598. This falls short of the one million registered voters required by law.

“Therefore, the Commission wishes to declare that the OKOA Kenya proposal to amend the constitution initiative has collapsed by operation of the law,” said a statement signed by Hassan.

Article 257(4) of the Constitution states that: “The promoters of a popular initiative shall deliver the draft Bill and the supporting signatures to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, which shall verify that the initiative is supported by at least one million registered voters.”

The decision drew a quick reaction from Cord leaders led by Co-Principal Moses Wetang’ula who described it as “distasteful and fraudulent.”

“It confirms the conspiracy between IEBC and Jubilee leaders. If that is not the case then how did Jubilee leaders know about this outcome days before the commission announced?,” Wetang’ula posed.

He warned that Cord has many options both “judicial and extrajudicial” it will pursue.
