Uhuru Must Start Behaving and Acting Presidential

Date:

By Eliud Owalo

When CORD leader Raila Odinga raised serious environmental, technical and legal issues with regard to the Itare Dam Water Supply project, one would have expected President Uhuru Kenyatta to first consult his technical teams with a view to establishing the facts with regard to the pertinent issues raised by the opposition leader.

But to the shock and disappointment of many, Uhuru decided to rant on a public offensive that included hurling expletives and diatribes that are unfitting for a holder of the office of the Head of State.

It’s likely that Uhuru had no answers to critical issues raised by Hon Raila and that is why he decided to go personal. This is the sad and tragic situation of Kenya today where national leadership is less concerned with national problems but focused more on self-preservation.

We are witnessing a regime that is so inept and inclined to take illegal and unsustainable shortcuts as it races to fulfill unrealistic electoral pledges and as it seeks to fill legitimacy deficiency without any regard to implications of its actions. Uhuru does owe Hon Raila and Kenyans an apology.

But it is Uhuru’s arrogance and beating of ethnic war-drums ahead of the 2017 elections that should worry Kenyans. In 2007, the country flared up due to such reckless warmongering from among the political class.

What Jubilee needs to be aware of is that more and more Kenyans are building trust in the opposition at the expense of a government which has been unable to deliver good governance but is more focused on plundering public resources and looting the country.
