A week before the much acclaimed and equally chided truce between presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, self imposed fifth columnist Mutahi Ngunyi made a prediction many rubbished as fallacious.
In his YouTube political channel, the analyst famed for the ‘tyranny of numbers’ façade said Winnie Odinga, Raila’s last born daughter will be the first woman President in Kenya and asked the pessimists to use that as a collateral and borrow a loan confidently.
Not only does she take after her father in looks, Winnie fits the mettle that has been associated with Odinga’s political career for eons, grit, bravery and wit. It is a little wonder that she was part of the engines behind her father’s 2017 campaigns and has been accompanying him in his trips in and outside the Country.
When Raila went to the U.S after the nullified August election and came back to a rousing one million match grand welcome that was disrupted by the police, she was right there with her father throughout the 7hour ordeal with the anti-riot police and Mungiki that violently engaged thousands of peaceful NASA supporters. She also accompanied him to mourn the late Zimbabwe opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai. She is basically by her dad’s side since her graduation from top USA university.
But it is the latest visit to Harambee house where she sat next to her father as Kenya ushered a new chapter that has raised rabbles. The eloquent, ebullient lady with a coy smile who loves rap music is said to be giving senior politicians in NASA sleepless nights over the 2022 succession politics.
They are worried that young Ms. Odinga will cloud their dwindling political clout and rise to be an enigma like her father. With a touted alliance between ODM and Jubilee in 2022, pedestrian analysts already claim Winnie will be part of the game plan either as a Prime Minister in a new position many have been pushing for to accommodate opposition or as running mate/DP designate. The honchos in NASA are allegedly confused and have no game plan yet to outshine the fast rising girl.
For the first time we had a child of a top politician in the front-line during the anti IEBC demonstrations and also all other NASA protests. Winnie was at the front-line a confirmation that she is a power girl, iron lady in the making !
In politics, nothing is a tall order especially in country where scions of the political elites have been ruling since independence.
