At first glance, Lowell Farms looks like any other restaurant but the truth is that it isn’t. It is a Cannabis Café! The café is the first licensed restaurant in America to allow the consumption of cannabis. Located in West Hollywood and opened on 1st October 2019, the café serves cannabis in the form of pre-rolled joints, fresh flowers, and edibles for consumption onsite.
Davis Elias (the CEO and co-founder of Lowell Farms) says, “It’s a place for those who are canna-curious and cannabis connoisseurs looking to experience the plant in a welcoming atmosphere. We believed there needed to be a destination for everyone to openly enjoy cannabis. There hasn’t been anything like this for more than 100 years.”restaurant
The city of West Hollywood has worked with the state and country governments to start up to eight licensed weed restaurants. The city hopes to experiment with different cannabis experiences, and more than 300 entities have applied to start up their restaurants. The license allows them to sell cannabis for consumption at the premises, and no take away is allowed.
Blanche, a waiter at the restraints says “Our ultimate goal is to make cannabis like alcohol—treat it like having a wine sommelier talk you through your pairings. We want to do the same with cannabis to take that stigma away. This signifies the real end of cannabis prohibition in California. This restaurant is a historic moment for the cannabis movement and in steering the normalization of the plant for the country as a whole.”
The café does not serve anyone below the age of 21 years. Nevertheless, the place is ever crowded and works from 10am to 10pm daily.
