I attended the unveiling of CORD in 2012 at KICC, that was the first time I saw Dr. Evans Kidero up close and I want to tell you something.
The ceremony was impromptu. The principals were holed up in a room and immediately they stroke a deal they instructed Dalmas Otieno to roll the red carpet.
Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru was the MC. BMW was in her element. There were also rumours that she and son of Adonijah were tighter than a virgin.
Anyway. She was vying for the governor of Nairobi and her main challenger for the prestigious ODM ticket was doctari.
Looking at the crowd she was definitely the chosen one. As bishop was charging the crowd Kidero arrived parliament side accompanied by mean looking goons.
The crowds booed. Bishop was happy. Kidero wasn’t offered a seat. Wanjiru had one behind baba.
Kidero stood at the far back in a sleek Italian suit surrounded by people who looked like thugs.
In a few minutes Raila, Kalonzo, Wetangula arrived taking the neatly arranged VIP seats on the red carpet.
There were four seats for the main guests, Orengo took the empty one. (You saw recently Orengo taking a VIP in Kisumu after Obado was chased away by Baba)
Ngilu later arrived as the ceremony was about to start to a thunderous welcome. She looked young and sexy like a Kamba lady straight from Kitui.
People loved Ngilu. Orengo ceded the seat to her after a tight hug. I’ve to say when she arrived she gave Baba a tight hug and a kiss that lasted two hours according to my estimation.
Unfortunately, the following day, Ngilu defected to Jubilee and the rest is history.
Immediately Ngilu took her seat Dalmas Otieno took to the podium to unveil the Coalition of Reforms and Democracy.
CORD was the locomotive that would take us to Canaan. The rest is history.
Back to Kidero. To cut the story short a friend tells me when they left the function they knew they would lose to Wanjiru.
Kidero was unknown to ODM electorate. He spent his life in blue chip companies where he dealt with stratwgyand not illiterate voters.
That’s the day doctari went back and decided to strategise and beef up his campaign team leading to the best run campaign in the history of Nairobi politics.
In Homabay I’m afraid his opponents may forever hate politics by the time ODM will go for nominations.
I hope Gladys Wanga will not be another Bishop Wanjiru.
