Kilifi governor Amazon Jefwa Kingi hit ground zero in Malindi and asked residents to reject Uhuru’s Jubilee party nominee in the March 7th parliamentary by election and instead elect ODM candidate.
The governor told a gathering of local elders to remain steadfast in ODM for it is the party that delivered the 2010 constitution giving way to devolution that has so far necessitated development in previously neglected areas like Coast region.
Here below is the excerpts of the governor’s speech.
As Coastal people, we must know who we are, where we are from and where exactly we are heading. We have a rich history as far as devolution is concerned. The late Ronald Ngala had a dream that Kenya would have a devolved system of governance. Up to his death, the late Ronald Ngala wanted the Coastal people to govern themselves so that we could have an equal share or the national resources and fairly resolve disputing issues like land and unequal distribution of power.
The March 7 by-election will be a continuation of Ngala’s dream. Our future generations will largely depend on our decision in this by-election. JAP is against devolution and they are out here to take the little that’s remained of us and leave us with nothing to hang on.
ODM helped us when we needed them the most by guiding us into voting in for the new constitution. ODM speaks the same language as people of Kilifi. We have aligned interests in helping each and every Kenyan citizen access their rightfully entitled services without making them look like privileges.
The much that devolution has brought to the people of Kilifi can be felt in all corners of Kilifi. But what Jubilee wants is to take us back to the neocolonialism era where everything will be decided for us in Nairobi. No! Enough is enough. We will vote on party basis, we will vote for ODM and we will fight against Jubilee until we see good leadership and equity to all Kenyans.
