The Malindi by-election is proofing to be a heavy task and is taking toll of Jubilee’s groundsman team-lead Senator Mike Sonko, the flamboyant senator whose efforts seem to be changing Jubilee’s fortunes in the by-election is ‘officially’ homesick though defying all odds and soldiering on with the campaign.
The flamboyant Senator came out openly to express love for his only wife Primrose Nyamu while in the campaign trail, a sign that he wants to go home to his beautiful wife and kids in Nairobi. Sonko confessed Primrose has been the backbone of his successful political career by supporting him for the last 20 years since the days when he was a hustler in Eastland’s Buru Buru estate.
The two who have stayed together as husband and wife for 20 years ,have gone through a lot and Sonko says if his wife abandoned him during his hustling days, then he would have ended up living in poverty. Sonko made the revelation in caucus meeting organised by Kilifi County Women entrepreneurs. The senator emphasized the need to empower women as they are the backbone of the society.
Hon Sonko who is currently leading the Jubilee machine in the Malindi by-election campaigns was overheard praising his wife again in a meeting with jua kali youths he had hosted for a drink. The local youth who mostly making a living by servicing informally the tourism sector wanted to know the secrets of success to which the senator said ” secret is a good wife, hard work, focus and being persistent, for my little success, i owe my one and only wife Primrose”.
“I love my wife so much, we struggled with her so much and we later managed to open a video library, a salon and boutique business in Buru Buru before I ventured into the matatu industry and bar business in Eastleands.” Sonko said
Hon Sonko joined the National Assembly via a hotly contested by-election in 2010 through Narc Kenya and his popularity has spread across the republic. Mike Sonko is passionate about things that affect the common Mwananchi. He recently intervened and resolved a dispute between mechanics who were operating at Grogan and managed to secure a piece of land that was in dispute.
He has also being on the forefront in the fight against land grabbing in Nairobi. The latest being cases of blocking the eviction of widows mostly grannies from their family properties by the so called greedy private developers.
He is still following up on the compensation claim for the people who suffered after the Sinai tragedy. The father of four is currently the front runner in the race to oust Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero from City Hall in 2017. Sonko also warned anyone to kindly not interfere with rest of my family members especially his wife adding “you can can joke with me but not my family members.”
