The revelations of massive corruption in government, scandal after scandal has prompted a fierce debate among statehouse operatives on how best they can package Uhuru for the 2017 general election.
A top State House political strategists was recently overhead saying that the plan is to sacrifice DP Ruto, drop him from being Uhuru running-mate and get somebody with a cleaner past to take his position.
By Ann Waiguru dragging DP Ruto’s top allies is a confirmation that the plan may work. The strategy is to confront DP Ruto with all his scandals and ask him to drop and his position be taken by either Eugene Wamalwa or Musalia Mudavadi.
In return Mt Kenya will support Ruto for position of Nairobi governor. It is open secret that DP Ruto is mobilizing Kalenjins especially those from Nakuru area to register in Nairobi. Just recently, the DP revealed is intent to capture Nairobi governor seat. The resurgence of KANU in Rift Valley is also geared to weaken the DP’s position.
It is obvious that DP Ruto has been greatly weakened. So far, he has lost the Masai vote, he has lost the entire North Eastern region because Muslims have gone back to ODM.
Basically Ruto has nothing left – just 60% of the Kalenjins, some top State House operative was quoted in confidence. A reliable source within the corridors of DP has hinted that he is also considering going for an easy catch, the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial.
The DP is a cat with 9 lives, he can take over Uasin Gishu and make it a model county after which Kenyans will basically demand for his leadership at the presidency level.
The DP knows the current regime is tainted and therefore he is likely to go for Nairobi Governorship where he will re-engineer the city to make it a model economy for his 2022 presidential bid.
If for instance he goes for Nairobi governorship he will most likely appoint former West Lands legislature Fred Gumo as his running mate.
Gumo has a good network in the city and he is experienced in slum politics and has some links with city militia that Ruto will need.
