Whatever angle you look at the By Election, Jubilee has lost big. I think President Uhuru made the wisest choice to keep off the campaigns.
First, KANU a party that was totally and completely dead and was being led by Nick Salat and Gideon Moi managed to scoop about 40% of votes in what was supposed to be a walkover. In 2013, KANU got about 14%, and URP 77%. DP Ruto camped in Kericho for two weeks sweating….
Second, turnout. The apathy after such a heavy, high profile campaign should raise concern. The fact that Jubilee had to openly use State Machinery in what is considered an obvious seat should worry those celebrating. Such tactics are only deployed in swing zones.
Clearly, there is a huge huge problem and writing off KANU will be as naive as hoping that Jubilee would have won in Malindi.
Third, the loss in Malindi after such an extensive splashing of State Resources and Cash should bring some serious soul searching.
These are clearly not good signs. President Uhuru was well advised to keep off.
