Haven’t been invited to, and I wouldn’t attend if invited to Project X Parties. But I think the Government, and more so my friend Ezekiel Mutua and the Police maybe over-reacting and outsourcing the problem, if any.
First, our Constitution and The Children Act, says that children (those below 18 years), have a right to privacy, happiness, leisure, play and recreation. Under the Convention On the Rights of Children, which we ratified, children must as far as possible be allowed to be children.
We cannot judge children based on our archaic moral standards and mores. Children should never be arrested or handcuffed or put in a police vehicle unless they have committed a felony. Listening and dancing to music is not crime at all. And drinking of alcohol by underage is not a crime at all.
The law doesn’t refuse children from drinking but it is only an offense to sell alcohol to them. I think, we maybe stretching moral policing in Kenya too much. Let’s fight with real and bigger crimes like public theft, absence of party loyalty by politicians, cattle rustling and terrorism.
Let moral issues like drinking, partying, homosexuality, prostitution et al, be left to Parents, Bishops, Imams and Teachers to deal with.
Haven't been invited to, and I wouldn't attend if invited to Project X Parties. But I think the Government, and more so…
