What IEBC have done today is to put themselves on the lowest ever pedestal from which Kenyans will take little effort to knock them over.
When little-known Ezra Chiloba was hired to bring back IEBC’s insanely dwindling credibility, many thought that the era of arrogant Isaac Hassan, known more for his role in the Chicken Gate scandal than for his legal prowess, was gone. But they were wrong. The chubby man in starched Islamic robe has quickly re-socialized the once innocently professional Chiloba who they’re now partnering with to dance the crooked tune of their political paymasters.
It is now incumbent upon Kenyans of goodwill to warn the Two Musketeers at the IEBC helm, that the lucrative patch currently covering their eyes conceals a treacherous quicksand, wherein officials of the elections body dissappear and are never, ever, seen again.
They don’t have to search far for cold-blooded precedence. Samuel Kivuitu died a very pain-striken miserable man. His funeral was never even attended by the man he, against the wishes of Kenyans, acrimonious rigged back to State House. If there was a merit-based contest on which constitutional commission have the blood of Kenyans on their hands, then IEBC will take the trophy without contest.
What Isaac Hassan and Ezra Chiloba are doing right now is to set this country back to the December 2007 blood-letting mood, where their predecessors ECK knwoingly set this country on fire. If Jubilee and IEBC are keen to see this country burn again, then Kenyans will have no choice but to willingly grant them their wish.
The age-old adage goes that ‘be careful what you wish for, for you will surely get it.’ Kenyans must stand up against IEBC’s tyranny now, or pay the ultimate price next year. They have left us with no 3rd choice, really.
If Kenya burns, we will all burn in it. Whether you are CORD or JUBILEE.
The choice is yours.
