Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has suspended his Communications director, Walter Mong’are.
Mong’are was suspended in a letter dated May 3, that was signed by county secretary Robert Ayisi.
He was asked to comply with the letter from the board by Wednesday, failure of which he would be fired.
But a source said Mong’are was sacked for failure to deliver as part of several measures Kidero has taken to revamp his image.
“The fellow was a pure clown. He added little to the Governor’s image… His dismissal was in order,” the source said.
The source said incompetent staff members will be fired.
Reached for comment last Friday, Mong’are said: “What is the big deal? Why should it be a rumor?”
“Today I might be at City Hall and tomorrow I might be the director of communications somewhere else.”
Mong’are reportedly fell out with several people including officials in Kisii county, where he worked in the past.
In Nairobi, he reportedly ejected staff from the public communication office so that he could use it. The staff members were later given a small office that was converted from a store.
There was drama when he took deputy governor Jonathan Muekes’ official car to a fundraising event in Kisii.
Mueke demanded to know why his official car was given to a junior member of staff.
