I have just finished watching the JichoPevu investigative piece on Jacob Juma which aired last evening. I have also read various Social Media rants on the ‘malicious’ manner in which that Cheryl girl has been thrust into public infamy. Many argue that JichoPevu should not have exposed her identity, as it did not add any meaningful input into the inquest on what happened that fateful night.
Let me tell you something.
What Mohammed Ali and Dennis Onsarigo did was unprecedented. That’s what journalism, as I understand it, is all about. When you set out to uncover the truth, every single exhibit that strides the lane is picked up, however petty or meaningless. In the mission to uncover the truth, there is nothing like concealing the identity of those blocking the clear view, because doing so would leave us – watching from home – with too many unanswered questions which goes against the spirit of the investigation, anyway.
Here is a reminder.
You all remember Monica Lewinsky – the former White House staffer who almost became Hillary Clinton’s co-wife. Having sex with that lady gravely put Bill Clinton in a hot mess. At the height of President Clinton’s impeachment proceedings, the American public wanted to know the true account of what really transpired between Bill and Lewinsky. Already, Bill had gone on public record saying that he “did not have any sexual relations with that woman”. The only people who could break the deadlock, therefore, were those who were always with him under constant watch – The Secret Service.
The US Secret Service are the President’s human defence shield. They have secrets that even the Presidents’ wives do not know of. They go with him everywhere, even when they’re asleep, they’re right there by the bedroom door. When Bill Clinton was President, First Lady Hillary one time threw a book at the back of the head of one SS agent driving her in the Presidential limousine accusing him of eavesdropping on her conversations with Bill. The SS, therefore, were the last remaining people who could offer a true account of the relationship between Bill and Lewinsky.
But there was one problem.
The SS are protected by law not to testify in court. Meaning that, everything they see and hear is privileged information and should not be relayed outside the SS circles. When they were subpoenaed by the Supreme Court to come testify, they invoked that clause protecting them and they thought they were safe.
That’s when Judge Norma Holloway Johnson, the federal judge in-charge of that case, made a landmark ruling: that the Secret Service personnel must testify before the grand jury in the Monica Lewinsky controversy, and that the Secret Service’s attempt to invoke a “protective function privilege” to prevent its agents from testifying was null and void. In as much as their testimony was going to corrode the impregnable trust between the SS and the Presidency, the judge ruled that it was a small price to pay in the interest of the truth.
In the end, Bill Clinton was found guilty of perjury but survived impeachment after the Senate voted to let him off the hook.
That Cheryl girl is walking on eggshells, right now. If I were her, I would stop the nonsensical bleating on social media and go into exile as soon as I can. Somebody close to her should promptly remind her of what happened to that herdboy who found the charred remains of Dr. Robert Ouko while herding his father’s goats around Got Alila in rural Muhoroni. That boy was picked by the state and was never again seen in public. Nobody knows what became of him.
I trust Cheryl to, as a matter of urgency, swear an affidavit at a prominent law firm, detailing any confidential information JJ might have shared with her (now that Jacob Juma’s tweets are currently being cleaned by the ‘system’), because when the shit hits the fan and the culprits are about to be cornered, they’ll run amok and clean off every single exhibit (dead or alive) that would be standing in their way.
This is the time we need her the most.
One thing Cheryl cannot do is to run away from Jacob Juma right now. She made a conscious decision to choose him among the many billionaires in this country, She must be ready to live with the burden of ‘seeing’ a famously controversial big-shot – even if that burden means “telling your parents the truth about your sexual escapades.”
Young girls growing up in this country must now take up this Cheryl matter and learn vital lessons from it. I am pro-choice. I respect everyone’s right to choose a social partner – I don’t care whether he is an ageing pensioner with withering skin needing 24-hour toilet support or an old granny bidding her time on our sandy beaches waiting for death. Choices have consequences, and we must be ready to deal with those consequences, as they come. You choose to date a controversial billionaire with enemies from here to Pluto you must be ready to take any responsibility that comes with canoodling him. Life would
