Residents of Lang’ata will be trooping to Akiba South C today and tomorrow to watch the finals of the inaugural edition of the annual Ahmed Papa Eid Cup Tournament that kicked off last week.
A total of ten teams drawn from Langata Constituency in Nairobi have been participating in the tournament that is wholly sponsored by local businessman Ahmed Ibrahim better known as Papa and who is aspiring to be the member of parliament for Langata Constituency in 2017 general election.
The primary objective of the tournament is to identify talent while ensuring that youth of Langata are motivated and encouraged to lead positive productive and active lives through sporting activities. There will be cash rewards and trophies to be issued to participating teams.
The tournament has been modelled to get established teams to play together to local upcoming sides as a way of providing motivation and transferring technical expertise from the higher leagues. There are a few players participating in the tournament who are national team Harambee stars players.
For instance, Paul Were plies his trade in Greece for FC Koloni. He has been in action for South B United while one Shikokoti of AFC Leopard is playing for Langata Gremio. Ayub Matengo plays in Somalian League for Horseed FC and he is representing Dam Estate. Jamal Mohamed of Al Khitab Sports Club, Oman is turning out for Masjid Nur South C while Mustapha of Westham FC plays for Mathare United and Musa Mohamad play for Gor Mahia.

3. Madaraka United
4. West Ham from West
5. Strathmore University
6. Akiba All Stars
7. Masjid Nur South C.
8. Green Sports Mugoya.
9. South B Veterans as host from South B’.
10. Nyayo Highrise Football Club.
In the next Ahmed Papa Soccer tournament, the pool will be expanded to meet growing demand from the youth teams around the constituency.
In the longer term, through sports development, Ahmed Papa hopes to see the inaugural tournament attract more participants and grow in order to provide young people an opportunity to enhance their social proficiencies while taking part in activities that encourage sustainable development
