The IEBC selection panel has pledged to recruit new commissioners before Christmas 2016. The vacancy advertisements will be out on Monday 24 October 2016.
It is noted with consternation that although the opposition CORD along with the civil society spearheaded the fight to forcefully remove disgraced IEBC commissioners, both the Chair of the panel one Bernadette Wanyonyi Musundi and her deputy by Professor Abdulghafur El Busaidy of SUPKEM are neither from the CORD side but rather inclined toward the ruling Jubilee Coalition that never wanted IEBC reforms. It’s a clear sign that Jubilee are not willing to play a fair game with their political rivals nor give Kenya a balanced IEBC.
This is a firm and friendly warning to the IEBC selection panel that they have a delicate job ahead of them and that they hold the future of Kenya in their hands. Gambling with the future of Kenya by recruiting ill-intentioned candidates who Jubilee has prepared in advance of this process will be firmly resisted.
Bookmark this post as we shall expose these people including government functionaries that have been secretly meeting to coordinate this apparent take-over of the IEBC in 2017.
The stakes are very high as CORD has already indicated it will not exercise the Supreme Court appeal option in the event the general elections are not free, fair or accountable.
The entire selection team is therefore obligated to either competitively select and give Kenya individuals of integrity and substance, who are not aligned to any political side or else CORD will lead the people of Kenya to exercise their sovereign power to options available to them including mass action to demand for the non-partisan selection of nee IEBC commissioners.
