The entry of firebrand youthful city lawyer Edwin Sifuna into the Nairobi Senate race has scared the usually smug Johnson Sakaja into a knee-jerk reaction.
Reports of good authority indicate that the relentless court proceedings being pursued by Gabriel Bukachi, alias ‘Chapia Chapia’, are machinations from the alarmed Team Sakaja who had hitherto started prematurely celebrating what they considered a walkover until the Orange Democractic Movement re-jigged their Nairobi lineup and brought Edwin Sifuna to the fray.
Not only is Chapia’s hefty legal bill being underwritten by Sakaja, but he is also receiving the sort of per diem that guarantees him an extravagantly copious pork portion.
Nairobians cannot wait for the proxy war to be over so that they can witness a direct faceoff between the two candidates. The theoretical Actuarist in Sakaja probably knows that the odds of landing the seat have immensely thinned since Edwin Sifuna entered the fray.
The nominated MP, with a penchant for freebies, is finding it tough acclimatizing in the rough terrain of elective politics.
Having already meekly surrendered his gubernatorial ambitions without much fight due to being entirely overmatched by Sonko, the well-fed Sakaja thought he had the Senate wrapped up with only the small matter of brushing aside the nondescript Bukachi of ODM.
As is well known, Sakaja is out of his element when faced with competent competition. You could see his eyes dilate when former TNA Secretary General, Onyago Oloo, let the cat out of the bag when he decamped from TNA to ODM and threatened to reveal the role Johnson Sakaja played in massaging the numbers that gave Uhuru Kenyatta a marginal victory in the 2013 elections.
The sad story ofOnyangoOloo is testament to Sakaja’sability to betray a revolutionary course for thirty sheckels of silver. Oloo was thrown under the bus by a man he considered a close friend simply because he was seen to represent a threat to Sakaja’s unbridled ambition.
While Oloo was the brain behind the entire TNA enterprise, it is the media-savvy Sakaja who took all the credit for a job he neither merited nor deserved. Sakaja took advantage of Uhuru Kenyatta’s lack of a political vehicle, rushed to the registrar of political parties and put in the TNA papers, got cleared and then hawked the certificate to the highest bidder.
Uhuru Kenyatta bit his bait, and with that he took advantage of the entire situation and nominated himself and his friends to parliament; and left Onyango Oloo to fend for himself. It was the greatest act of political betrayal by someone who ostensibly considers himself a fighter of injustice and in whom the youth of this country were supposed to look up to. His true colors soon started to show.
When Oloo, tired of this arrangement, and made known his intention to step out from the shadows to run for office, Sakaja double crossed and jettisoned his friend, warning him against leaving Jubilee or else they would smear him with concocted scandals to bring him down. As John Githongo would say, he was left ‘dangling in the wind”
When Onyango Oloo eventually decamped from the party he helped rise to power, Johnson Sakaja became wary of his threat from the outside and immediately went to the press linking his former friend with several made-up stories of OnyangoOloo’s involvement in malpractices during the latter’s term at the Lake Basin Authority.
Time would soon vindicate OnyangoOloo who encouraged Sakaja to go to court for which the wannabe musician backed down from knowing he had no iota of evidence. Nairobians have now started to peel off the mask from the pretender who has been desperately masquerading as a Luhya candidate to win support from Nairobi residents from Western Kenya.
As the famous Budhist saying goes; Three things cannot be long hidden; the sun , the moon and the truth.”
It is time.
He had been as content as a hog in slop, and had set about his campaigs with the air of a man awaiting coronation.
It is therefore easy to comprehend the panic attack that Sakaja is currently enduring when all his neatly-laid plans have abruptly come undone with the ODM’s deployment of a superior candidate, who is familiar with the gruelingNairobi political terrain and has already undone the euphoria that Team Sakaja were originally catwalking around with.
Edwin Sifuna’s entry into city politics could never have come at a better time for Nairobi residents who were worried about the lack of credible options for the Senate seat.
