The American war zone is increasingly of interest to me but really I have need to be sure that my argument is wholly rational before I come on air…and I want to be short and fair…really short!
This is a subject that I wanted to plunge into but needed the emotions to subside however the situation escalated with the killing of 5 police officers in Dallas – Obama came out on air and offered all federal support necessary to help protect officers. He praised the police for the difficult and dangerous work that they do.
The Texas killings were as a direct result of two previous shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana where two black men were shot dead at point blank range for no wonderful reason.
So far The Police in America have killed 509 people this year. Less than 50% of the victims are white. A quarter are blacks amounting to 123 people – that is 12% more in proportion in a country with only 13% of the whole population being black. There are a further 385 victims whose race is undisclosed. That means there may be more black people unrepresented in the published statistics.
In the same period (2016 so far), 58 American police officers have been killed 26 of whom by gunfire! On average, for every 1 police death caused by a civilian, there are 9 civilian deaths caused by the police. For every police death, there has been some form of justice. For majority of ordinary citizens killed, there has been little or no justice, especially with those affecting black people. Thank God for modern gadgets, we are seeing a glimpse of it!
It is fair to conclude that when Obama came out to console with the “law enforcement” community, he was speaking from his rear end. From the figures, it is clear that it is not the police who need support, it is the citizens, especially those of colour.
There is a systematic racist harassment and bullying of black people. Philando Castile who was gunned down next to his girlfriend in Minnesota had been stopped at least 31 times and hit with 63 traffic charges. Many of the charges were dismissed. I don’t know what it means to live in a society where you are oppressed that much for reason of your colour.
It is clear that there is an inherent fear of black people in America and in Britain. The fact is black people fear white people and with good reason. The black man has endured 4 centuries of brutal treatment at the hands of white people. In our day, the brutality has mutated. Black people are marginalised economically, socially and work largely in slave-related jobs, earning existence wages. There is little chance for economically disadvantaged people to escape the poverty trap. In Britain, the term institutional racism has become unashamedly acceptable.
Obama has been quick and loud to support the perpetrators. With Hillary on her way in his footsteps, he is only making a case for gun control in America. If there are people to be disarmed in America, it is the law enforcement officers! Obama is well known to shed tears in times of tragedies like these, but his tear glands are ever dry when it comes to black people. Take for example the child whose father was shot in Louisiana… and I do not for a moment accept the argument that black people are uncooperative with the police over there in America. Black people in The West and America in particular are victims. Statistics don’t lie!
It is difficult to imagine that up until recently, Obama’s own father could not eat at certain restaurants or ride on front sections of a bus for reason of his colour. A son who forgets the history of his own people is an imbecile. Am not even talking about “his people” – but his father!
What we need to hear in the US of America is that the number black prisoners in America is proportional to the population they represent. That sentences between black and white people for similar crimes are the same. That social and educational opportunities are the same for all Americans. The same for Britain and France. You hear the song about the holocaust. We should hear more of the slavery song. So that it is not forgotten and that lessons are learnt not to repeat it in any way, shape or form! There is not one more special or less special than the other for whatever reason under the earth!
Amen!
