MR PRESIDENT, END THE POLITICS OF ASSASSINATION AND EVICTION OF OPPONENTS:
On Saturday, in the centre of Nakuru town, thugs operating under the command of Bahati Constituency Member of Parliament Mr. Kimani Ngunjiri, and enjoying the patronage and material support of Nakuru governor Mr. Kinuthia Mbugua, attempted to invade a meeting being addressed by the Leader of the Opposition Rt. Hon Raila Odinga.
The young men openly bayed for the blood of Rt Hon Raila Odinga as they destroyed property and threatened the lives of his supporters.
The MP and the governor later called for the eviction of members of the Luo community and other supporters of Raila Odinga from Nakuru and its environs.
This incident came only days after youths, under the command of MPs Dennis Waweru, Maina Kamanda and former MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru led youths in traversing the city of Nairobi from the eastlands all the way to Upper Hill where they blocked the entrance to the offices of Hon Raila Odinga while baying for his blood.
On Sunday, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Kabete MP Waititu led hundreds of supporters at what was clearly an ethnic oathing forum camouflaged as a church service and called for the assassination of Rt. Hon Raila Odinga.
To those who do not know and those who have forgotten, Nakuru has been the launching pad for pogroms that have seen this country descend into orgy of bloodshed before, during and after high stakes elections.
In 2002, on the eve of a watershed election in which power changed hands from Nyayo to Narc, Nakuru came under the grip of politically sponsored ethnic violence in which hundreds of Kenyans lost their lives for not supporting the Kanu candidate. The Kanu candidate in that 2002 election was the current President, Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta.
In 2007, Nakuru was once again at the centre of pogroms that saw members of the Luo, Kalenjin, Kisii and Luhya communities attacked and murdered in large proportions because of their perceived political position.
Once again, President Uhuru Kenyatta was found by the Trial Chamber V of the ICC on 19th January 2015 to have been a player in this murderous plot that pushed our country to the brink.
We equally remind Kenyans that governor Kinuthia Mbugua was the Commandant of the Administration Police before and during the 2007 elections and after in which AP’s played an open, partisan political role as election agents for PNU and later went on the rampage and a murder spree, shooting perceived ODM supporters at his command.
In fact, months before the 2007 elections, then Commissioner of Police General Hussein Ali Mohammed warned the country that the AP unit was being made autonomous and strengthened, under the leadership of Kinuthia Mbugua, with the sole aim of stealing the 2007 elections and later subduing ODM supporters through the gun, a warning that came to pass. Unfortunately, it was General Ali and not Mbugua who got cited by the International Criminal Court for crimes authorized by Mbugua who was operating under a tribal obligation and oath.
Moses Kuria is not just another MP. He is President Kenyatta’s Member of Parliament. Uhuru went all out to ensure Kuria became the MP for Gatundu South.
Kuria is also supposed to be a negotiator seconded by the president to the envisaged talks on the future of IEBC. Kuria cannot be negotiating while calling for Raila’s assassination at the same time.
We are here to condemn the recent primitive, divisive and reckless acts that have put lawlessness, intolerance and impunity at the centre of our politics again as we race to the 2017 elections.
We put the planners and executors of these actions on notice that there will be a time to be held to account.
We draw the attention of the people of Kenya to the reality that Nakuru has always been used as the launching pad for attacks on other communities and other parties. What happened against Hon Raila must therefore not be seen as an isolated, one off incident but part of a wider pattern of things to come.
Let everyone be alive to this fact and stand vigilant and alert.
But we also wish to send a very strong and clear message to the planners of these primitive actions that if they think other communities and political parties will always succumb to bullying and manipulation, then they must think again. Kenyans, and ODM supporters in particular, will not simply turn the other cheek. If this madness does not stop, we, leaders of ODM, will be left with no option but to ask our supporters to be prepared and ready to defend themselves.
We too have communities that we can summon to act, to talk assassination and to begin evictions.
Finally, we are sending word to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mr. President, this is how collapse begins.
Mr. President, ours is either a nation or a series of ethnic enclaves controlled by ethnic bigots and warlords.
We want to know where you stand on these war like activities encouraged by your supporters, leaders of your party and security for
