Demonstrations at Moi University Eldoret following the appointment of Prof. Laban Ayiro as the acting Vice Chancellor. Prof Liban was appointed yesterday by the education ministry to take over from Prof. Mibey whose term has officially ended.
Uasingishu Governor Jackson Mandago flanked by several MPs and MCAs are leading the demonstrations.
The bone of contention is that an “outsider” has been appointed to the leadership helm of the Eldoret based university.
UASIN GISHU Governor Jackson Mandago and his Elgeyo Marakwet Counterpart Alex Tolgos threaten to storm Moi University graduation demanding the removal of acting VC Prof. Laban Ayiro.
Prof. Ayiro was this week appointed by Education CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i to act pending appointment of a new VC in three months after retirement of Prof. Richard Mibey.
The two want the institution to be headed by a Kalenjin.
