Nairobi central business district has been brought to a standstill as University students went on rampage protesting the murder of a comrade, the former university of Nairobi student leader and politician OCS Rigara.
It is alleged that the assassination of Ragira, a former vocal student leader was a plot by a criminal gang with strong connection in the Police force. He had opposed the gangs who exploited food vendors at an open eatery situated near University of Nairobi hostels popularly known as Klub 36.
He had been opposing the goons’ activities in the market for three days and was fellied by a bullet on Thursday late afternoon.
OCS Rigara was also a community , he vied for an MCA seat on an independent ticket in 2017 but lost to comrade Ogeto.
“They ask for money according to the size of the land that you are running your business on. The amount ranges from Sh10,000 to Sh20,000,” a trader who requested anonmity told local reporters.
The trader further claimed that they have been operating in fear as the armed and ruthless youth have been threatening them and at times even brandishing pistols to scare them into submission.
“It has been a nasty scene, things not have been good here and nobody has been coming out to assist us,” another trader said
Sources say that it is during the ugly confrontation that one of the irate youth allegedly shot Mr Ragira, killing him on the spot.
