The kind of chaos at country bus, Man! The entire place, from Afya Center to Railways to Muthurwa is hell on earth. No kidding.
Western Kenya needs SGR. One that runs from Nairobi through Narok to Isebania via Kisii and one that plies to North Rift Malaba and all the way to Turkana. Hiyo itajilipa within ten years, mpaka kickback ya nanii…
Transport to Westetn Kenya is a billion dollar industry totally underutilized. We need to start loving ourselves. The stinky alleys from which western peoples board their matatu are so undignified. Imagine a world where they could board a train to somewhere in Kinoo and then comfortably take a bus to western Kenya. Better still imagine the comfort and safety of trains all the way.
As I write this, there are thousands of people stranded as there is a serious but predictable shortage of matatus. The earliest available matatu to Kakamega is at 4 p.m. And I need to know. Why so many matatus to Eldoret. I used to think that there less than 250 Kalenjins in Nairobi…what gives here.
Now my favourite Christmas joke. Hoping I have never told it before.
Back in the Christmas of 2003, some guy sensing the desperation of the people borrowed an overcoat, printed some fake receipts and arrived at Country Bus. He told the stranded guys it is Sh 700 ( back then this was so much money, damn).
60 passengers later he told them not to move as the bus was just around the corner. In 2003, the phone network, more so Safcom was crappy like hell. So the clever chap pretended to be on phone and walked away, having dumped the receipt book hapo kwa stage.
Today while there, it hit me, I could pull it off.
