Kenyans on social media have strongly lauded Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale after he stood out to support Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri when he fainted at Milimani law court on Friday.
Many Kenyans have termed Khalwale’s move as an act of boldness and true brotherhood. Senator Khalwale is a medical doctor by training and practice- he studied at the prestigious University of Nairobi Medical School while Hon Ngunjiri is an alleged certified tribalist and hate monger.
Hon Ngunjiri fainted at the court where he had been arraigned with seven other MPs to plead to charges of hate speech .
Lawyer Cliff Ombeta had told the court that his client was feeling unwell and requested he be taken for medical check up.
The MP however fainted a few minutes before he pleaded to charges, which he later denied.
In photos circulating on social media, Khalwale is seen helping the MP unbutton his shirt before helping him to go out and get fresh air.
Ombeta said the MP had fainted as a result of poor conditions at the Pangani police cell where he and five others were detained for three days .
“My client is feeling unwell due to pretrial punishment that he was subjected to,” said Ombeta.
KOT expressed their joy and wished all leaders would put their differences aside and focus on uniting the country.
Khalwale, on his tweeter handle said, Ngunjiri had touched him with the three words that he told him
“He told me three words ‘Boni Thank You’,” he said.
