President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto skipped the opening of the Nairobi county chamber on Tuesday after Jubilee and Cord MCAs threatened to disrupt the event.
Jubilee MCAs made the threat after realising that DP Ruto was to represent President Uhuru who had left the country for Juba, South Sudan. The Jubilee MCAs are furious of DP Ruto for continued interference of Nairobi city politics.
Most Jubilee MCAs are against DP Ruto’s project CS Eugene Wamalwa. The Jubilee MCAs warned that chairs will fly in the assembly hall if DP Ruto was to attend leaving Kidero with a rotten egg in his face.
On the other hand CORD MCAs also threatened to disrupt the proceeding when they realised that Governor Kidero had not invited Premier Raila Odinga.
Led by majority whip David Mberia, Cord MCAs demanded Raila preside over the event because Nairobi is “Cord County”.
Ruto reportedly asked Governor Evans Kidero to officiate, but Jubilee MCAs walked out, saying they will only attend the ceremony if the president officiates.
Nominated Senator Beth Mugo is among MPs who walked out of the event in protest of project ‘Eugene’
It is alleged that the Jubilee MPs are planning to sack county assembly speaker Alex Ole Magelo.
Migori Senator Wilfred Machage said continued wrangles among MCAs may have led to the no-show by Uhuru and Ruto.
“Politics at City Hall is just too much. It appears there is infighting amongst the MCAs which is in bad light to other arms of the government and public,” the Senator said.
Ruto was scheduled to stand in for the Head of State who made a last minute cancelling owing to an Igad meeting being held in Juba, South Sudan.
