DP Ruto meets Gresta VC ahead of Joho degree recall
Deputy State President William Ruto earlier today held a secret talks with the Vice Chancellor of Gretsa University Professor Kuria Thuo.
Sources say the meeting was specifically requested by DP Ruto to exert pressure on the university regarding a Bachelor of Commerce degree issued to Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho earlier this year.
Confidential sources added that Prof. Thuo left the meeting after reaching an agreement that Governor Joho’s degree would have to be suspended until investigations into his qualifications were completely verified.
In return, the DP promised Thuo that Jubilee government would forthwith allow the Institution to continue offering degrees as an accredited university. This comes a week after the Commission for University Education (CUE) recommendation last week that Gresta university, among two others, be stripped of their authority to offer degrees following a quality audit and inspection conducted in January.
As a result of the meeting It is almost certain that Gresta will be recalling Joho’s degree anytime from Monday in what has been widely interpreted as a political war Jubilee is waging against the Mombasa Governor with the object to ensure he is disqualified from vying as governor in 2017 general election.
There have been public claims by his detractors and opponents who insist that it was not possible for Joho to be admitted to any University with his D- grade. However,Kenya today has been able to establish that after Joho sitting for his KCSE exams at Serani Secondary School in the year 1993 he subsequently underwent further studies.
For instance in 2007 he enrolled for a Pre-University certificate course, also known as bridging course .Thereafter, he did a certificate in Business Administration and later on a Diploma course majoring Human Resource Management in 2009.It is understood that it is on these qualifications that he used to gain adminission into a degree course and not on the strength of the alleged forged C + certificate.
