Uhuru Kenyatta was in Narok today and both the PPS and the media are being economic with the truth of how things panned out on the ground.
The President was visiting Eng. Johnson P. Ole Nchoe, Geothermal Development Company MD in Olngenchemi, Narok County for a “thanksgiving service” and carried an entourage that included William Ole Ntimama and Gen. Joseph Ole Nkaiserry who is the internal affairs CS. The main podium was surrounded by uniformed and plain clothed, mean-looking recce company presidential guard.
For starters, local Narok North MP Moitalel Ole Kenta, under pressure from his constituents boycotted the event. He was not far away. He was drinking tea and enjoying a feast of Nyama Choma in Narok Town with his constituents.
It did not escape political obsevers that Ole Kenta was expected to host the President since he is the only elected TNA elected member in Narok County. It would appear the Orange wave currently blowing across Maasai plains forced him to back-off.
During the rally, any speaker who dared to mention Jubilee Party was jeered and heckled in front of the JAP party leader – also state President. It was indeed embarassing to see an ageing Ntimama, speaking from his seat a few yards from the President, shouted down by morans, young enough to be his great grand children.
The normally boisterous Garissa MP and Jubilee Majority Leader, Aden Duale, supposedly representing his party leader DP William Ruto, met his match and was subdued throughout the event as Maasai Morans glared at the podium menacingly.
At one point Gen Nkaissery was heckled while speaking in Masai saying those that went to Orange house were of unsound mind. The morans insisted that CORD leader Raila Odinga must be respected. Even in his speech, delivered at extremely tense moments, President Uhuru did not mention any CORD leader by name.
Raila Odinga recently received Jubilee defectors at Orange House
It will take a lot of effort to sell JAP in South Rift and more so Maasai counties. The upcoming tour of CORD leader Raila Odinga dominated group discussion in Narok Town this afternoon. A spot check by this writer revealed youth were planning a “curtain raiser” ahead of Raila’s highly anticipated visit.
