CORRUPTION IS A DEADLY CREATURE THAT FIGHTS BACK WHENEVER IT IS CONFRONTED.
By Steve Kewa
Last evening i came across a blog that purported to raise an alarm about an impending scandal in Kenya Pipeline (KPC). As a patriot who hates corruption with passion, I read through the document keenly and with alot of interest. What got my eye was the tone of the letter, “facts” that were NOT adding up and the fact that the purported author carried the name cnyakundi. After verifying the web address and other details as far as the author is concerned, i discovered the document didnt originate from the Nyakundi i know but it was a parody account meant to hoodwink kenyans.
FACTS.
Let me first take the opportunity to congratulate the KPC management lead by the MD for taking it upon themselves to boldly and decisively fight corruption, sabotage, restore integrity of the company and above all restore the company from terminal losses & integrity issues to what it is now.
There are 3 CEOs who i have admired since they were appointed for their resilience , hard work and their energies in streamlining their dockets to sustainable levels by eliminating all sorts of vices like corruption, nepotism and sabotage. These are:-
1. CS Education.
2. PS Transport and infrastructure
3. MD Kenya Pipeline Company.
These three individuals are young (dont know what you will say about matian’gi),bold, fearless and extremely dedicated. So when i read about the purported exposee in KPC, I knew there was something cooking or already cooked and served.True to my thought, it happened that some individuals who were confirmed to have been taking part in corrupt deals and other vices had been fired and were fighting back. Among the highlighted issues include the following
1.Extortion of suppliers with threats of implicating them in the audit.
2.Selling interim internal audit reports to press and bloggers
3.Gun hiring to criminals and hit men in donholm and umoja areas
4.Leaking confidential company security documents to criminals
5.Gross incompetence and misconduct
To me the above issues are grave that apart from firing, the individuals involved should be prosecuted and jailed to face maximum terms.I hope the KPC management will take up the challenge and make Kenyans proud.
The purported exposee document is believed to have been authored by 3 individuals among the six listed in the memo below. They are suspected to be allies of three other senior managers fired in may 2016 for the following reasons.
1.Gross misconduct & incompetence.
2.Oil spillage in Thange River that costed the company 200m in clean up.
3.Committing the company without approval during tendering for Greenfield terminal.
4.Doctoring board meeting minutes to suit their intentions.
MORE HEADS TO ROLL.
Its here that you see how corruption fights back.Kenyans should stand and support those who fearlessly fight the vice and encourage them to continue with the same spirit.I encourage other government institutions to borrow a leaf from the Kenya pipeline management who want to make our country great.
