Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula has warned Raila Odinga’s ODM party that he will fight to the bitter end to retain the senate minority leader position, he said the NASA “divorce will be noisy and messy”.Meaning he won’t take the humiliation lying .
Senator Wetangula was reacting to a move by ODM/NASA to have him dropped as as the Senate Minority Leader and be replaced by with his Siaya counterpart senior counsel James Orengo.
“If anyone wants to divorce it will be noisy, messy, unhelpful and it will have causalities. I’m not going anywhere. I was not invited to NASA but I’m a founder,” Wetang’ula said.
Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka told the senate that he had received a letter from Minority Whip Hon Mutula Kilonzo informing him of the decision to replace Wetangula with Orengo.
The Speaker, however, told NASA to follow house rules in replacing Wetangula.
“The removal of Senator Moses Wetang’ula as Senate Minority Leader though valid, stands suspended and will not take effect unless and until a Senator has been elected by the NASA Coalition in the manner provided by Standing Order 20(1) has occurred and the communication to that effect together with the minutes evidencing that decision has been made in writing, to my office by the Senate Minority,” Lusaka ruled.
16 ODM senators led by nominated senator Judith Pareno signed the petition to oust Wetang’ula. Hon Pareno said senator Wetangula’s election was a gentleman’s agreement that is not legally binding and ODM is taking what is rightfully theirs.
Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang said the decision to sack hon Wetangula is premised on the need to have a strong leadership in the Senate
