Wetang’ula and FORD-K need Raila Odinga for political survival
By Phil Wesonga
When one conducts an analysis on the Wetang’ula ouster it quickly becomes apparent that despite being a Party Leader with his own independent Party, Wetang’ula and FORD-K will not exist politically by 2022.
In the Senate, it is interesting that Weta could not attract the support of Senators Wako, Malala and Khaniri, other Luhyas to vote in his favor. These Luhya Senators have stood steadfast in Raila’s corner.
Neither could Wetang’ula attract the support of Senators Omogeni and Ongeri who can be classified as neutral from Kisii region.
Similarly, the coastal Senators also abandoned Weta, that is kina Faki, Mwadzayo, Issa Boy and Mwaruma.
Even the Wiper Senators, Mutula of Makueni and Wambua of Kitui from Wiper, did not offer Wetang’ula any support. In fact, Mutula himself delivered the NASA PG resolutions to the office of the Speaker Lusaka.
This coup in the Senate against a so-called co-principal really speaks volumes about Wetang’ula as a politician. It exposes him as one without political capital of his own but a joyrider who has been piggybacking on Raila Odinga’s hard earned goodwill under the guise of Party Leadership.
Wetang’ula’s mobilisation and canvassing skills are seriously underwhelming for someone who has been in legislation for twenty years or so and goes on gloating of being a NASA co-principal.
If you can’t persuade 20 Senators to vote in your favour Mr Co-principal and Mr Party Leader, how in God’s name will you persuade 10 million voters to make you President?
The reason the juvenile and bitter attacks are directed at ODM by lapdogs such as Bonny Khalwale is plainly because it’s only H. E Raila Odinga who can salvage the Wetang’ula political fortunes. It’s only him who can give FORD-K a new lease of life.
That’s the plain truth and the sooner these people come to terms with the fact the better it will be for all. With Raila ~Uhuru deal signed and stamped, we are seeing the start of the end of backward tribal politics of zoning regions for certain parties by entitled remnants of the KANU era.
And it is a good thing for Kenya.
