Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s bodyguard was shot and injured by a sniper attached to Migori’s Okoth Obado during a peaceful ODM rally that turned chaotic today.
Governor Okoth Obado made good his promise to DP Ruto taht he will block ODM deputy party leader Governor Joho from holding a rally in Migori town.
The rally that was initially scheduled to take place at Migori stadioum was moved to Posta grounds after Obado and county police bosses blocked the venue using armed police. The local ODM leadership then moved the event to the nearby Posta grounds where governor Obado stormed with armed police and militia causing chaos.
Obado arrived as Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o was addressing the crowd.
Immediately after seeing him, the crowd booed and threw water bottles, stones and shoes at the podium.
Governor Obado’s guards fire in the air unprovoked. A bullet went through a VIP seat injuring one youth who was taking a selfie with governor Joho.
Governor Joho’s car was shot at 3 times injuring hisbodyguard.
Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir told this writer “This was an assassination attempt. They were after Joho. Our car was shot at three times.”
Nassir said Joho cheated death and that a supporter who had just taken a selfie with the Governor was also shot.
He downplayed claims of bad blood between Obado and Joho, saying the chaos were as a result of the rising political temperatures.
The Governor was in the county to officially launch ODM office with fellow ODM deputy leader Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega).
A group earlier local ODM youth took to the streets protesting Governor Obado’s attempt to block ODM rally from Migori Stadium.
Trouble began on Sunday night when arsonist alleged to be acting on behest of Governor Obado threw a petrol bomb at ODM’s new Migori county office ahead of its official launch today.
