Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko took to Kameme FM, a Kikuyu vernacular Radio to lament over being bullied by Interior PS Karanja Kibicho.
Sonko claimed Interior PS Karanja Kibicho was threatening him and demanding that he picks a certain person as the Deputy Governor.
Governir Sonko went ahead to confirm that he will appoint a deputy governor from the Kikuyu community but will not be the one Karanja Kibicho wants.
“The deputy will be a Kikuyu because they have a large population that supported me, let me choose a Kikuyu I want, a technocrat, a professional, an elite, when I refuse he (Kibicho) sends me messages threatening me and asking me why my vehicle has the flag, let him concentrate on the job he was appointed to do,” Sonko decried.
“Kibicho has no powers to intimidate me, he should concentrate on the job he was appointed to do by H E the president. When I refuse he sends me trying to intimidate me on small issues such as why my official vehicle has a national flag and goes ahead to threaten with consequences”. Sonko added
Sonko has previously indicated that there are cartels hellbent on frustrating changes in City Hall thus delaying service delivery, he has singled out the Kidero network and now Kibicho tops the list if his candid interview on Kameme was anything to go by.
Sonko further revealed that he will consult the president and DP Ruto on the most suitable person to appoint as deputy governor.
Sonko also sought to make the record straight over media reports that he had accused some leaders from Mt Kenya of plotting to betray DP Ruto come 2022, he said the media misquoted him.
Sonko also warned Muranga Woman Rep Hon Sabina Chege for linking him to the expoze behind her alleged special relationship with conman Wazir Chacha who is also in the stormy of a sex scandal in Parliament. Sonko said it was general knowledge and in public dormain that its the DCI that exposed Hon Sabina Chege and Wazir Benson Chacha
Many callers lauded Sonko over his performance so far given the rot he inherited from the previous regime. The Interview that almost went viral and was conducted in Swahili and English got more listeners tuning in what was tagged as ‘FaceThe Nation”.
Sonko revelation that he will appoint a Kikuyu deputy governor was also lauded as a smart move to addressing gender parity in top leadership. There is ahuge pool of Kikuyu women in government and also corporate world that Sonko will chose from.
Pundits termed the interview an excellent move by Sonko to retain his close link with the Kikuyu nation ahead of the 2022 succession battle.
