The wise saying that in peace, sons burry their fathers, while in war fathers burry their son was painfully felt today in Wajir after eleven people were killed in Wajir West over boundary dispute.
Even after 50_years of independence land remains the most contentious issue in the republic and wajir west-eldas constituency’s boundaries are not exceptional.
It goes without saying that politics is at play here and we have always said political differences must be settled through political means and not at the expense of the poor brothers and neighbours
The land belongs to the people and the people on both sides have ownership on the land.
The people on both sides of the divide have grazed together harmoniously over the years.
Any effort to instigate hostilities cannot, shall not and will not be tolerated at all.
Peace is Paramount and any trigger to insecurities amongst our people must be tackled decisively and in time.
I choose peaceful means of solving this despite and condemn any attempt to disregard the danger at hand.
In light of this and for a lasting solution to be achieved , the boundary must be demarcated and subsequently gazetted so that people know where the exact boundary is. To those killing each other, upon death your rightful share of that land is mere six by six feet.
I therefore condemn in the strongest terms possible the senseless killings that happened Yesterday.
To the deceased rest in eternal peace and quick recovery to the injured!
We ask for immediate cessation of hostilities and avoid any attempt to retaliate!
