JOURNALISTS ARE MIRRORS OF OUR SOCIETIES, I STAND WITH MY COLLEAGUE Francis Gachuri
By Mo Jelle
1. More than once The Late Lucy Kibaki (may her soul RIP) attacked journalists and media houses.
2. Artur brothers under protection of state agencies once raided a media house at night, destroyed broadcast equipment and took away others while armed thoroughly and all the minister in charge of security then could do is to say “If you rattle a snake be prepared to be bitten”.
3. Duncan Khaemba, Rashid Ronald and Faith Matete (all journalists) have previously been harassed and molested by the security forces while doing their jobs.
etc
In all the above cases, the offenders never even bothered to offer any form of apology; in fact threats were thrown all over the place that the same would be repeated if the journalists and media fraternity in general didn’t behave and operate in a certain way.
What happened at Wiper Headquarters against Gachuri and Gatwiri was unfortunate and deserves condemnation using the strongest words possible.
However, a section of Kenyans seam to be exaggerating the act and blowing it out of proportion to gain political mileage out of it. Some are even using it to build their ” NASA militia” narrative to tarnish the image of certain personalities in Kenya’s political arena.
I personally hate hypocrisy. It cannot be human when its you who is accused and demonic when its your adversaries. The NASA fraternity accepts that what happened is wrong and the same is highly regretted. We are very sorry and pray that this will never happen again anywhere around us. That should put the matter to rest. None of us is perfect.
Thank you.
