The issue of Mau Forest is a live wire which is too hot for the faint hearted. Very few will stand up and fight for the forest.
Below is a factory for charcoal fully covered with soil to ensure no air gets in. The plant has been set up here with the full knowledge of forest officers and other security officers including other local leaders.
It produces over 20,000 bags of charcoal. The location is Sagamian, Narok South. Next to the charcoal plant, the Kipsigis continue on a daily basis to encroach into the forest by cutting down the trees and using them to build new homes.
Flying over the Mau Forest you will see new settlements, which are slowly destroying the forest.
Unless we all come together and take a serious stand all rivers in Narok will dry up and the Mau Forest will be no more in the near future.
The sad part is that even those who are tasked with taking care of the forest are among the illegal beneficiaries of the Mau Forest.
How on earth would this government expect to save the forest yet 80% of the people in the current government including members of parliament, senators, cabinet secretaries have encroached into the forest.
It is now time for the youth of this nation especially the Maasai youth to rise up and fight for Mau Forest.
