On Sunday over 300 residents of Kinango stormed the home of their area MP Hon Gonzi Rai and demanded for food and water. They had walked overnight for over 100kms. They had starved enough and they needed something to eat. Faced with severe drought, the residents sought refuge at their legislature’s home.
This they did knowing very well the role of their MP. Their area MP runs no charity, is behind no foundation and operates no refugee camp. They know their MP is meant to make legislations and the closest he has come to public finances is playing patron to CDF and sharing out his salary, if he shares.
They could have well waited for dawn for them to start their great trek to Hon Gonzi’s home to search for food and water. They however took the journey of over 100kms at night and were knocking at dawn.
Women, children taking one step after another behind their husbands and fathers to get food. They also had water containers that they used to empty three 10000L water tanks at the Mps home. They walked over 100kms at night, men, women and children loaded with containers able to carry over 30000 litres of water back.
You see there is something with us as human beings. A time comes when we cannot take it anymore. A time comes when we care nil. A time comes when all that matters is all we need and all we need is all that matters.
The Kinango residents were hungry. With this rampant and run away corruption, we will one day take it no more, care not and trek to that place called Kenya and demand our country back.
One day, we shall trek. One day, we will get annoyed. One day, Kenya will be ours.
