Top lawyers representing Miguna Miguna have rejected ”plot’ by the government to force him to sign forms to regain his Kenyan citizenship.
counsel Cliff Ombeta, who spoke to media, said the government is trying to validate the wrongs it committed by presenting the forms.
“The court was clear when it declared directives by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and Immigration director Gordon Kihalangwa null and void. Thus, signing any readmission form is a violation of the same orders,” Ombeta said.
He added the order directed unconditional entry and that a Visa application would subject his client to unnecessary timelines and conditions.
Miguna returned to Kenya on Monday following his deportation to Canada in February but the re-entry at the JKIA was full of drama.
He was blocked and officers attempted to force him into a flight to Dubai as he refused to apply for a Kenyan Visa.
The bad ass criminal lawyer Ombeta noted: “We, as lawyers, shall play our legal part. We all know Miguna is a bomb to any political outfit. He is a potentially troublesome guy who is perceived a threat. He has been against the Uhuru-Raila reunion which we suspect has to do with all that is happening.”
Others top lawyers representing the NRM-KE General include Senior counsels James Orengo and Dr John Khamniwa, Nelson Havi and Edwin Sifuna and Julie Soweto among others.
Ombeta further said the famous handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition boss Raila Odinga was to wipe out political ‘bile’ yet the self-styled NRMKe General is suffering because of it.
“We were at the airport with Raila who tried to intervene but it was in vain. If the handshake was to kick-start reconciliation and healing, how come we are witnessing such things?”– Ombeta wondered
The lawyer added that the occurrences surrounding Miguna were a clear indication of fabrications.
“Miguna has constantly objected the (Uhuru-Raila) reunion on grounds that the Nasa leader has lost sight of what the coalition was agitating for. It could be the reason he is being treated this way”- Ombeta added
The Immigration Department said Miguna automatically lost his Kenyan citizenship that year when he acquired that of Canada as the country did not allow dual citizenship.
“To enable Miguna regularise his citizenship status, the department has this morning dispatched the requisite application forms to the JKIA for him to fill them for processing,” it said in a statement.
Miguna earlier said he was born in Kenya and that nobody can take that away from him.
