Philip Charo, the Malindi candidate on a jubilee ticket now wants to be referred to as an independent candidate. He says he is not comfortable walking alongside Aden Duale, Mike sonko and other jubilee bigwigs as he claims that they have scared away voters.
Speaking on phone in a Malindi Hotel yesterday, Charo said that he was misled that the people of Malindi had abandoned ODM for Jubilee because they were tired of Raila.
Charo was overheard saying in a telephone conversation that he was shocked to receive a cold response in his campaign rallies where only members of Kikuyu community turned out.
“You see my brother I was misled by Gideon (Hon Gideon Mung’aro) that the people of Malindi will agree to join Uhuru government. My heart was in ODM and still is but I have realized I screwed up everything. The other group that misled me was the Kaya elders. I don’t know what state House operatives gave them, which blinded them completely. Now I don’t know what to do my brother because my ODM departure seems to be a blessing in disguise for Mtengo. Now, the man who no one thought could ever step in parliament is likely to take my place because of a few fools. Henceforth, I want my team to refer me as an independent candidate, will that work?” Said Charo in a conversation with an unknown recipient who seemed to talk less as Charo seemed to control the talk.
The by election is upcoming this March 7 and Charo will face off with ODM’s Willy Mtengo.
