NASA politicians in Migori county are castigating Nairobi governor Mr Mike Sonko for paying 270k hospital bill for five NASA supporterswho were brutalized by police and hospitalized during the “No Election” protests.
I respectfully disagree with these particular NASA politicians. Sonko did the right thing. In fact Sonko did what the county government and local leaders ought to have done considering these patients had been detained in hospitals for more than five days.
Furthermore, these NASA supporters were brutalized and others killed standing up for ideals that they not only believed in but were inspired and advocated for by NASA leaders. The least NASA leaders ought to have done is to do a fundraiser and pay hospital bill.
Nonetheless, regardless of our political affiliations, we must be courageous enough to applaud the right thing and/or condemn the wrong thing. Our political and tribal affiliations must never distort our conscience if we are to move Kenya forward.
But more importantly, police brutality is a crime that must be punished. Further, policy makers should discuss and institutionalize universal healthcare for all
