State House Comptroller Lawrence Lenayapa on Sunday met leaders allied to Jubilee who are campaigning for Jubilee candidate Philip Charo, our source has learnt. The meeting, at the exclusive Billionaire Resort in Malindi, was meant to strategize on how best to mobilize voters for Malindi JAP candidate Philip Charo.
Cord leaders recently accused Jubilee of using state resources to campaign for their candidate. Jubilee leaders denied the accusations. Lenayapa was accompanied by President Uhuru’s aide Jomo Gecaga, who however did not attend the meeting and was allegedly busy in his hotel room entertaining some special guests hmmmmm.
A source told this writer that Jomo remained in his room while, Lenayapa kept the MPs waiting for more 5 hours before addressing them. This even forced the jubilee candidate Philip Charo to go to a church function at Malindi AIC alone.
The MPs who were kept stranded waiting for Jomo included Kilifi North MP Gideon Munga’ro, Nairobi senator Mike Sonko, Nominated senator Emma Mbura , Mustafa Iddi (Kilifi South), Naomi Shaban (Taveta), Hari Kombe (Magarini), Ngozi Rai (Kinango) and Lucas Maitha among other leaders. Calls to Lenayapa’s phone went unanswered. He did not reply to MPs text messages either.
Lamu West MP Julius Ndegwa, who was said to be at the meeting, denied it but the Kwale women rep Zainab Chidzuga and nominated Senator Mvita Mshenga confirmed the allegations were true. He told our reporter he did not attend the meeting and was not aware of the agenda.
The Source learnt that Lenayapa and Gecaga checked in at the resort on Friday evening and checked out on Sunday evening after the meeting. They were at apartment number C5 which has three exclusive bedrooms. The two were in the company of a third man only identified as Joseph. A source at the hotel told The Star Lenayapa and Gecaga were exclusively served in their rooms and were not easily seen outside.
The Jubilee-allied leaders are said to have complained about the mistreatment they allegedly got from Lenayapa. They accused him of high-handedness. He is said to have bluntly dismissed some of the leaders’ points. Sonko, die-hard Uhuru ally, rubbished the allegations. “Those are internal affairs which with time they will be solved amicably,” he said.
One of the MP in the meeting who sought anonymity, said Sonko was furious about how the leaders were treated and while trusted people from statehouse were locking themselves in the rooms with ladies and being in company with Joho’s family members. “Sonko was very bitter. At one time, he said he will quit the campaigns in Malindi. He was really pissed off at the two, especially when when Jomo was in company with Joho’s brother nicknamed Dodi” he said.
Mike Sonko, Kinango Mp. Hon. Gonzi Rai and Sports CS Hassan Wario later in the day joined hundreds of Cushite communities at Eden Rock Hotel in Malindi where they preached peace and told Kenyans to shun away from tribalism. The Billionaire Resort is a sister to Lion in The Sun resort and is owned by Italian billionaire Flavio Briatore.
