As by-election campaign reach their climax, Malindi yesterday Tuesday 23rd Feb witnessed one of the biggest political rallies convened by Governors Joho and Kingi as they campaigned for the party’s candidate for the Malindi by-election on March 7th.
Thousands of Orange clad residents converged at the venue of the rally at Mere within Ganda Ward as early as 6am this morning and by mid – day the venue was packed to capacity with eager crowds eager to hear the message from the Orange brigade.
The ODM rally was being seen by coastal political analysts as a perfect response by CORD leader Raila Odinga who despatched his party deputy Joho to lead those campaigns after Uhuru Kenyatta departed the country and directed Jubilee’s rally in the same area yesterday to be led by Deputy President William Ruto who flew into Malindi to salvage a disjointed and underwhelming Jubilee campaigns led by Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko who has camped in Malindi for two weeks now.
Observers say Uhuru is clearly showing signs of panic after being publicly challenged that his lengthy stay at the coast over December and January would be overturned by a day of Raila’s campaigns.
Malindi has vowed to teach Uhuruto a political lesson of their lives and vowed to reject attempts to bribe using KANU style baiting such as a Cabinet Secretary position and NYS jobs. Ruto’s public reinstatement of sacked National Oil CEO Sumayya Hassan Athumi who was irregularly sacked from her job last month points to Jubilee desperation to appease voters in Malindi.
