PRESS STATEMENT by ODM Deputy Party Leader Governor Hassan Joho
A decade ago, after more than 30 years of heartfelt searching, Kenyans went to vote in a referendum to decide on the proposed Kilifi Constitutional Draft. A decision that would echo in the history of our country for eternity.
The goodwill surrounding the 100 day promise of the NARC government had been hijacked by forces determined to subvert the free will of the people to realize a new constitutional dispensation. That fateful November of 2005, the people of our great nation overwhelmingly voted to reject the mutilated draft pushed by anti-change elements prevailing at the time.
Out of this effort was borne the Orange Democratic Movement; Kenya’s biggest and greatest political party. The party that fought against a bad constitution in 2005 and later in 2010, fought to bring alive the good one.
The party that brought about electoral reform, the party that brought Devolution to Kenyans, the party that defeated the draconian Security Laws and the party that continues to fight for Kenyans every day against Corruption. This party turns a decade old this year.
Towards marking this auspicious occasion, the Orange Democratic Movement returns to the County of its birth. The Change Movement is coming home to Mombasa. I officially announce that our great county will host ODM’s “10 at 10” celebration scheduled for this Saturday, September 10 – an extravaganza that will inspire the hearts and minds of the people of the republic.
On that day, Kenyans will be reminded of the rich history of our party and will see for themselves the great vision we have for the next ten years. #TukutaneMombasa
