The front-running ODM aspirant for Ruaraka constituency Jim Clement Ayungo who had gone underground after reports emerged last week that police were hunting for him this morning reported at CID HQS along Kiambu Road. He had been ordered by IG of police to present himself to the nearest police station to record a statement over the remarks he made a a public rally urging youth to resist election rigging.
However, CID officers smuggled him out of the CID headquarters and whisked him away in a convoy of four siren blaring subaru outback vehichles to escape his lawyers, supporters and journalist who were waiting outside. It is not clear if he recorded his statement. Supporters were told to follow him to Nairobi Area but on reaching there, he was nowhere to be seen. The police at Nairobi area suggested people to check at Kileleshwa Police Station but so far he has not been produced.
No one knows if police will charge him in court tomorrow, or will continue to detain him or if he will be released but IG of police had suggested he may be charged with “hate speech” or “incitement to violence”.
Ayungo is the third ODM aspirant in Nairobi who is facing harassment and intimidation from police after Eliud Owalo and Anthony T. Oluoch.A widely circulated video shows him swearing to lead Raila’s youth against Uhuru’s soliders to protest if there is election malpractices in 2017.
Ayungo, who is popular with Nairobi youth, also recently donated a donated a state of the art pimped “nganya” branded with ODM and Raila Odinga to be used for the 2017 campaigns.
