Protesters suspected to be from Mt Kenya region on Wednesday torched Syokimau AP camp, where a lawyer was held before he was murdered.
IJM human rights lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and cab driver Joseph Muiruri were held at the camp before they were tortured and Killed.
More than 1,000 people had promised to hold peaceful demonstrations in Mlolongo area but this was not the case.
A witness said young men who spoke Kikuyu and Sheng looted before setting the Administration Police camp on fire. The protesters are believed to have done torched the station as a revenge attack.
“They stormed into the container and removed valuable before setting the whole place on fire,” the witness told the local reporters. Police officers watched as the protesters looted. The officers tried in vain to put out the fire. No other structures were affected.
“You can be sure if such an attack were to happen in Kisumu or Nyanza the officers would most likely have opened fire killing or injuring the protesters and thereafter claim self defence”, it’s like the APs there were supervising the burning and looting by the protesters, an eye witness who requested anonymity told this writer.
Local and international human rights groups, lawyers and members of the public have been holding demonstrations against extrajudicial killings and in a push for justice for the three.
A postmortem result revealed that the trio’s deaths were as a result of being hit on the head.
Four police officers linked to the deaths of the three were arrested and detained amid investigations.
They are Fredrick Leliman, Stephen Chebulet, Silvia Wanjiku and Leornard Maina.
