5. Hon Junet Mohammed – ODM
6. Hon Mishi Mboko-ODM and
7. Hon Johnston Muthama Wiper DP to represent it in the Joint Parliamentary Select Committee on Matters Relating to IEBC following a final deal with Jubilee.
The deal was blocked by USA Embassy in Nairobi and it also reported that President Obama had called the two top leaders in which he made it what the consequences for continued tussle will be.
Here is how it was reported elsewhere on HOW President Obama got Raila and Uhuru to agree.
Friday 10th June was the turning point for both CORD and Jubilee principals, both president Uhuru and Prime Minister Raila Odinga got direct calls from Washington (President Obama was on the line) putting to an end to anti-IEBC protests.
The USA Ambassador Bob Godec had earlier been involved in trying to unite the two sides. About three weeks ago ambassador Godec was at the Karen home of Prime Minister Raila and also he met president Uhuru at Statehouse in trying to get the two sides agree on the way forward.
Religious leaders and Private sector alliance groups were all dominated by Mt Kenya (basically Jubilee leaning) and were seen to be pushing CORD to accept the Jubilee route, this had already been rejected by Raila led CORD coalition.
Ambassador Godec is said to have briefed his boss (President Obama) expressing his concerns and quoting intelligence reports that religious groups and the private sector alliance were Jubilee moles camouflaged as negotiators, its at that point that the State department ordered Godec to take charge and keep Washington updated of the progress.
Well on Friday 10th as Uhuru was busy in his tour of Ukambani he received a call from ambassador Godec who told him that President Obama will be calling him later that evening and it will be good for the two of them to meet and discuss a few sticky issues a head of president Obama’s call. The president cut short his Ukambani schedule and flew direct to Statehouse.
President Obama’s call with Uhuru touched on many issues raging from corruption, security, mafia take-over of government and IEBC. it is in this call that Obama is said to have pushed Uhuru to accept CORD demands (partly) and also agreed that he will push CORD to also soften their stance.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Raila who was on a tour of Nyamira county also received a call from ambassador Godec who told him Obama will be calling. Indeed at around 1840hours Obama called and spoke to Raila for long. Obama is said to have also pushed Raila to cede ground and allow the process to take off.
Well in the end CORD only got 60% of their demands while Jubilee got about 40% of their demands.
Tomorrow Prime Minister Odinga will join president Uhuru to unveil the joint IEBC reform team complete with terms of reference and the timeline.
