There will be victories, there will be defeats.
Personally, the 2017 elections came to an end a few hours ago. For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.
To comrades, friends, partners, and fellow soldiers of the change movement, all I have I would have given gladly to see Rt. Hon. Dr. Odinga declared Kenyan president. No words are sad enough to express my disappointment at the outcome of the 2017 presidential elections and no words are strong enough to express my determination to continue the forward thrust of the work Dr. Odinga has done.
To me, Dr. Odinga will always remain my President. Today he lives on in his immortal words and works that permeates the Kenyan history for the quest of a Just, free, equal, fair and democratic society where all citizens have a decent chance of success if they work hard; he lives on in our mind and memories; he lives on in our hearts. We call him Agwambo, the Enigma. My President and the people’s President.
To our brothers in Jubilee, you were our opponents and not our enemy.
To President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President, William Ruto, I wish you well. I pray that you will carry the burden of the Kenyan presidency with dignity and humility. The Kenyan nation is deeply divided and I hope you will take an honest step towards unifying the country.
Towards this end, I appeal to you to withdraw the forces that you have stationed in the villages of those who supported NASA and end the occupation of the NASA strongholds. Let those aggrieved by the election outcome mourn in peace without the constant reminder of the tyranny of force that comes with the continued occupation of their homes and villages.
Finally Mr. President, Kenyans are hurting. Youths have no jobs; the cost of living is high; our economy is shrinking; nurses are still on strike; corruption has crippled your government.
In your campaigns, you acknowledged that more needed to be done. My sincere hope is that you will not disappoint those who have trusted you with their votes.
Remember, the man who practices unselfishness, who is genuinely interested in the welfare of others, who feel it a privilege to have the power to do a fellow-creature a kindness – even though polished manners and a gracious presence may be absent- will be an elevating influence wherever he goes.
Mr. President, make a sincere effort to appease those who have felt ostracized from your government over the last five years.
Let us all yield our partisan feelings emanating from the campaigns to patriotism.
