Some of us went to condemned schools. You know those schools whose names have never appeared or perhaps may never appear on papers? Yes. The so called tiny schools. Schools where getting a grade that would earn you direct entry into University was a pipe dream. Even the community know they can’t produce University materials.
Schools with no single teacher marking marking National exams. I hope you get my point. I mean, those schools where rigging is unheard of. Those schools where when results are announced, whatever you get, you know you worked for it. Schools that admitted every Tom Dick and Harry, including boys and girls who scored 94 marks in KCPE. And we broke the ceiling, we passed. Though we were just a handful.
If you still don’t get my point, I’m talking about schools where the day results are announced and you get a grade which will guarantee you direct entry into a public University, all neighbours will cook big ugalis, mboga and omena and bring to you just to say thank you. Those are the schools I celebrate today.
If you haven’t gotten me yet, I’m talking about those schools where the school fees you pay for four years equals the one they pay in one year in those schools that appear on papers as having performed well but you end up meeting in the same University.
