Days after president uhuru Kenyatta stamped his authority and made some tactical changes in the executive which many argue is a signal that he is set for an all out war with Deputy President William Ruto and vanquish him out of the Mt Kenya region, tame his little influence in government.
In a report by The Star President Uhuru Kenyatta wants to take control of both houses to further assert himself and drive government agenda before he retires in 2022.
Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, a Ruto ally who has on various occasions been seen as an enemy of the President would find it hard moving forward as heTops on the list of those targeted for removal .
As quoted in the daily paper,a source indicated that the President, Jubilee’s party leader is considering entering into an agreement with Gideon Moi. Thereafter, Uhuru will convene a parliamentary group meeting to replace Murkomen with the Baringo Senator,
In a facebook post Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, an outspoken President Kenyatta supporter, confirmed the plot to institute changes tabling clear the Presidents hinted plans.
“The leadership of the house – the Majority Leaders, Whips etc – in both National Assembly & Senate were nominated by the Jubilee Party to champion the President’s agenda in the house – strictly – as the President articulated in the first Jubilee PG on 30/8/2017”The lenghthy post reads in part
like Mwangi Kiunjuri, Wambugu said those opposed to the President’s agenda will leave their offices and become ordinary members of the Parliament. Senate whip Susan Kihika is also targeted for removal.
On Monday, Kihika together with other Nakuru politicians allied to the DP William Ruto were barred from entering the venue where President Kenyatta was a having a function .
As reports indicate, Murkomen and Kihika are not the only one to suffer the seeming new clean up , the President also wants to replace committees chairs who are not backing him.
Parliamentary committees are crucial to the operations of the bicameral House and have sweeping powers in approving government policy and budget preparation.However,The President’s handlers believe allowing Ruto to hold unfettered sway in Parliament could be risky for Uhuru’s legacy projects.
In a lengthy report by the star says In the National Assembly, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa (Budget and Appropriations Committee chairman), Baringo North MP William Cheptumo (Justice and Legal Affairs chairman) and Pokot South MP David Pkosing (Transport Committee chairman) have all been earmarked for removal.
In the National Assembly, Ruto’s allies directly control at least 15 committees.
These include Agriculture (Ali Haji), Information (William Kipsang’), Defence (Katoo Ole Metito), Education (Julius Melly), Energy (David Gikaria), Finance and Planning (Joseph Limo), Labour (Ali Wario) and Lands (Rachel Nyamai).
Others are Sports (Victor Munyaka), Delegated Legislation (Gladys Shollei) and Broadcasting (Joash Nyamoko).
In the Senate, Ruto controls Education Committee (Andrew Langat), Finance (Mohamud Mohamed) and Cohesion (Waqo Naomi) among others.
With the rift between president Uhuru and his deputy Willliam Ruto continueing to deepen,their differences now playing out in public,with both leaders eyeing on a different 2022,it is a matter of time for the kenyas ruling to fumble and ultimately fall.
