I have always though unknowingly, regarded Gideon Moi as a man of very passionate convictions. But lately especially from stunt he pulled yesterday, I am still wondering what drove him to hide his father from seeing Deputy President William Ruto.
What Gideon Moi did yesterday is uncalled for. Such height of shamefulness only confirms that the boy is not worthy his onions. Without his father ex-president Daniel Arap Moi, Gideon is clay footed. He is a lame duck that cannot survive on its own.
That Gideon’s father was President does not automatically make him a presidential material as speculated by his bloggers here in these streets of Facebook and Twitter. What they miss in their fallacy-laden analysis is a proper contextualization and deconstruction of the person they have purportedly labeled as their enemy – William Ruto. But there are truths and there are fallacies. What the bloggers of
Gideon must not forget is that DP Ruto does not consider any of his critics an enemy. He takes criticism with zero demurring. And that is what great leaders are made of. The DP’s conviction is that every Kenyan should enjoy the right to know, and the right to differ because Kenya is a collective enterprise. He is the man who truly believes in the rule of law and the sovereignty of the people.
What Gideon forgets is that he is politically relevant because the old man is breathing. Should Mzee Moi breathe his last – God forbid – The people who visit Kabarak proclaiming their undying love for the Moi family, most probably, will cease the trips. There will be total apostasy. I have a feeling Ruto’s next Trip to Kabarak might be on a note.
Gideon must know that with or without Mzee Moi, William Ruto is still going stronger. The fact that Gideon hid his father from Ruto yesterday has not changed the DP in any negative way. The Sugoi man remains the perfect embodiment of humility who fully appreciates that it is a great privilege to be entrusted with the leadership of the great Kalenjin nation. He has certainly not forgotten the millions of Kalenjins who believe in him and he constantly proclaims that God has been very kind to him.
Ruto has done what the father of Gideon failed to do for more than the 24 years he was in power, transforming the lives Kalenjins. They should allow him to continue doing so. Ruto’s ardent critics have speculated about his declining goodwill and declining legitimacy. The latter is fictitious because his legitimacy is unquestionably real and incontrovertible among the Kalenjins; the former is contrived, and can only be redressed by the learning of hard lessons on both sides.
William Ruto is the kingpin of Rift Valley. He has the interests of the people at heart. In 2007, he put his life and personal comfort at risk in The Hague for the sake of his people. Those who want his position should go and seek mandate from the people to stake their claims, and not seek to sabotage Kalenjins for selfish reasons. Those are the enemies Ruto should talk about.
