It has been revealed that KTNs problems start with TV CEO Joe Munene, husband to Esther Mbondo, the two with no training in journalism manage KTN like their home. Munene is the chief designer of studio and sets, he has to approve graphics, and programs while all the while he has never picked up a paper to write a news script. His profesion; a marketer.
So the heavy hand he has in running the place is what that has brought down KTN and that shows on the gulf between the newsroom and the management. It stifles creativity.
Follow that by Joe Ageyo, an all round good guy but spineless and an appeaser of the system. Ageyo is so terrified of losing his job that he will do anything to keep his job. It’s almost like he will die without the job- perhaps he also feels inadequate because he really has never studied journalism as a profession. His degree is in environment and agriculture..so you have two individuals who are handling important jobs and they dont have qualities and boldness to run the place.
Joe Ageyo being a managing editor, can never make a decision about anything without consulting Joe Munene.
They use this for defensive reasons, so they all agree to do something that way when things backfire, no one is to be blamed.
Then the final character, Kibisu Namlanda, who is supposed to be the production manager- he has the same character with Joe, spineless and terrified of losing his job that he never makes a decision.
A typical day in the newsroom- involves these 3 gentlemen locking themselves up in one office for hours and hours of “meeting” basically just meetings that agree to protect each other, plan on how to escape decision making.
Finally, Ellen Wanjiru- Deputy Managing editor. formerly from citizen and ally of Joe Mnene where they met in Uganda working on NTv Uganda…
Ellen of the same profile, wants to keep her job so much her strategy is to spend time gathering dirty linen on colleagues and reporting them to HR. she spends he days writing memo’s and emails to everyone.
Such a dysfunction system saw John Namu and his team of producers, Asha Mwilu, smart, Onsarigo, Mohamed Ali– and a host of others who hve left for Citizen Mercy Kandie, and others decide to walk out of that place. KTN is a dysfunctional, leaderless, back-stabbing joint bidding for Jubilee.
