When I was 12, I stopped believing in awards. I started caring less, if I was on top of class or not.
Every passing year, my contempt for awards, honours and prizes gets even worse. Just a few weeks we learnt that Harvey Weinstein wielded so much power in Hollywood he could decide who gets an award, on virtue of you gave him a good massage.
Today, I saw the list of those being given state honours, and it proved that awards, prizes are very overrated, stupidly subjective, and you can manipulate your way…
I mean Obama won a Nobel three hours into his presidency. Last year Bob Dylan was given a Nobel for literature, when there were more deserving writers (I don’t mind Bob though, he is the greatest living poet).
