First and foremost, we would like to thank the Almighty God and say “ALHAMDULILLAH”, for a well-deserved victory for our party ODM and our candidate Mheshimiwa William Mtengo.
I would also like to thank the great people of Malindi, for rising above all the intimidation and deception that we have witnessed here in Malindi during this period.
I would like to thank YOU the people of Malindi for coming out in great numbers to elect Mheshimiwa William Mtengo of ODM as your member of parliament. You have done a great service to democracy and made Kenya proud. You have shown the people of Kilifi, the greater coastal region and the entire nation of Kenya, that you cannot be bought, intimidated or jailed into voting a choice against your wishes.
We would also like to thank our candidate for a well-fought victory; his resilience and effort should be a lesson to upcoming politicians. I am sure I speak for all friends of the party and Mheshimiwa Mtengo when I say, “HONGERA” kwa mbunge mteule Mheshimiwa William Mtengo.
I would like to register my sincerest gratitude to the Governor of Kilifi, His Excellency Amason Kingi, Senators, Members of Parliament, MCAs as well as the legions of party faithful for their diligent work in the campaigns and overseeing this process. I am not able to mention each one of you by name, but accept my appreciation on the roles you played.
Last but not least, I would like to thank our party leader, the Right Honorable Raila Amollo Odinga and co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka for taking their time to participate with us in this exercise. To Honourable Raila Odinga, I salute you for taking your time to help us guard the glorious legacy of the Orange Democratic Movement in this great constituency of Malindi. May this be a testimony to our adversaries and saboteurs, to our former colleagues from here in the coast that have decided to go against the will of our people. May it be a testament of things to come in the 2017 elections.
However, as happy as we are with this result we must register our disappointment with The IEBC, The KENYA POLICE SERVICE and the reluctantly defunct Provincial Administration. We have documented a total of 8 episodes of voter bribery and also have a series of complaints from our voters about missing names on the register, late voting and unclear assistance from electoral officials They could have done a better job to protect the vote of the mwananchi.
We also want to tell the Kenya police, that you are our brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, sons and daughters. Do not be used in a manner that is not befitting of the service.
We also want to address Jubilee, you lost Bungoma, you lost Kajiado, you lost Nyangores, you lost Masongaleni and now you have lost Malindi. The same fate will befall you in 2017, prepare yourselves.
Words cannot express my gratitude to the residents of Mombasa County for their unwavering support during my absence and I want to assure them that development is and will continue to be my priority.
We want to remind the public of their new rights under the constitution. You have a right to peaceful free and fair elections; you should never give up that right. You should never allow anyone to take away from you what was earned through blood sweat and tears. Your freedoms and rights are permanent.
May God Bless Malindi, May God Bless our party ODM and may God bless this beautiful land of Kenya.
